This training is designed for parents and will provide an overview of the transition process under IDEA 2004 and current Ohio law. Parents will (1) engage in activities and discussion around the planning process necessary to develop transition plans that are a part of a student's IEP, beginning when the student turns 14, (2) know how to proceed with their own son's or daughter's transition development, (3) know what questions to ask about the transition process and (4) know the steps necessary to move their student from the academic environment into an independent adult life.

The Arc of Ohio training will provide information about the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities proposed waivers for children with intensive behavior needs, the future of the Ohio Home Care Transitions waivers, trusts & guardianship, and Ohio Legal Rights will discuss issues related to special education and the recent terms of the partial settlement in Doe vs. State of Ohio.

This is an annual conference devoted to the "community exploration of disability as an individual experience and social reality that cuts across typical divisions of education and employment; scholarship and service; business and government; race, gender and ethnicity." Papers and student poster presentations must be submitted by November 7, 2009.
