Disability Employment Awareness Month kicks off with a celebration at the Statehouse

Several hundred people, on October 8, gathered on the Ohio Statehouse West Lawn to celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month. The celebration included opening remarks from Michael Rench, administrator of the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission (RSC), and featured an address from Ohio's First Lady, Frances Strickland who emphasized the importance of employment in the lives of people with disabilities. RSC commissioner David Williams also addressed the group stressing the value of employing people with disabilities.

Entertainment was provided by a bell choir from Guernsey County, the Rose Bowl-bound Ohio State School for the Blind marching band and a local choir. The celebration began with children from the Ohio State School for the Deaf signing the pledge of allegiance.

The event was sponsored by RSC and the Governor's Council on People with Disabilities.
