Customized Employment & Transition Age Youth Conference

August 5, 2011

8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This conference will introduce the process of discovery as an alternative to traditional assessment, demonstrate how it works for youth with significant support needs and can be part of age appropriate transition assessments. According to the conference flyer, this strategy enables the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to create and provide truly individualized work experiences that enable youth to participate as successfully as possible in employment.

Creative examples of youth in the workforce will be shared to illustrate how to conceptualize employment for all, determine what a young adult with a significant disability can bring to an employer and how to approach an employer with a proposal that meets their needs as well as the student's needs. The presenter is Ellen Condon, Transition Project Director, University of Montana Rural Institute. Registration deadline is July 15, 2011 or when maximum capacity is reached.
