Governor signs anti-bullying bill

February 3, 2012

Governor Kasich signed an anti-bullying bill into law that requires schools to update policies to include harassment and intimidation sent electronically, such as over the Internet or mobile phones. The law, referred to as the Jessica Logan Act (PDF file), also requires school buses to follow anti-bullying policies, training for staff, and a bullying policy statement to be sent annually to parents.

In January, the Ohio Legal Rights Service, Ohio Poverty Law Center and People First of Ohio submitted comments to the Senate Education Committee urging the passage of the anti-bullying bill to provide and promote a safe, high-quality and integrated learning environment for Ohio's students, including students with disabilities.
