LRS, Ohio Poverty Law Center and People First of Ohio urge Senate Education Committee to pass anti-bullying legislation

The Ohio Legal Rights Service (LRS), Ohio Poverty Law Center and People First of Ohio submitted a letter to the Senate Education Committee requesting additional efforts to provide and promote a safe, high-quality and integrated learning environment for Ohio's students, including students with disabilities. The letter also recommended that the Ohio General Assembly develop and pass comprehensive anti-bullying legislation, including the following provisions:

  • Strong and clear policies prohibiting bullying in schools;
  • Strong and clear policies promoting implementation of school wide preventive bullying curricula and positive behavior supports;
  • Enumeration or listing of groups that are often targets of bullying acts;
  • Comprehensive education and training requirements for administrators, staff and students; and
  • Student-friendly legal remedies to support students in their efforts to obtain a high-quality education in a safe learning environment.
