IRS offers new free self-service option for filing tax returns

February 6, 2012

Facilitated Self Assistance (FSA) is a new and free service offered by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that allows taxpayers prepare their own return using online interview-based software at select locations throughout the country. This service is available for people who have a simple tax return and need a little help or do not have access to a computer. IRS-certified volunteers are available at these locations to assist with tax questions or computer issues.

Other free tax preparation assistance offered by the IRS to qualified individuals includes the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.
